This opportunity is a youth-led initiative part of Youth Corps Leaders Programme.
In conjunction with YMCA, Team Genesis is looking for Volunteers to support and work towards the social cause of improving the well being of the special needs community and help them integrate better into society.
Known as the YMCA Youth Club, the club will allow special needs clients to get together and have a home-like environment; with a diverse range of programs aimed at enabling special need clients with new employable skills and have fun at the same time.
Volunteers who can commit on a regular rostered schedule are preferred. Hence, Volunteers who will be able to commit to all 4 sessions will be prioritised. Volunteers will have to go through a Volunteer Briefing at the start of every session.
Note: It is a requirement by YMCA for volunteers to be 18 years old this year. Therefore, volunteers who are still 17 years old but turning 18 this year may continue to apply for the opportunity.
Volunteer Befriender for 'Y' Photography
As a Volunteer Befriender, you will be empowered to create a positive experience for a group of individuals with special needs ranging from Down-Syndrome to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through a series of workshops and activities. Your role will be to provide a fun and meaningful session for the beneficiaries, engaging them through learning of new skills.
'Y' Sports is a program in which clients will get to experience the joy of physical activities. The program aims to encourage clients to adopt a healthy lifestyle through staying active whilst simultaneously picking up coordination skills and learn about teamwork. Furthermore, it acts as a time for both the clients and their caregivers to unwind and relax.
There will be a total of 4 sessions of 'Y' Photography which are curated to be progressive and carefully paced out. In each session, clients will be learning a different skill set and playing various games to have an all rounded experience.
