Working with Thye Hwa Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC), Project KITA: Empowering the Elderly aims to engage and reinforce health-seeking behavior in elderly staying in rental flats, while preventing and reducing the prevalence of social isolation.
Volunteer with Project KITA for bi-weekly sessions where we either (1) visit the elderly, talk to them and conduct various activities, or (2) have mass health engagement and activity sessions.
Do note that your personal details and particulars will be shared with our Community Partner - Thye Hwa Kwan Moral Charities as part of their volunteer recruitment policy. If you are uncomfortable with this arrangement, please do not apply for this opportunity.
Elderly Befriender
During the session, befrienders will visit the elderly at the homes or at the Senior Activity Centre to conduct activities and interact with them. Activities differ every week, ranging from games such as jenga to art and crafts activities such as clay modelling. After getting to know the elderly and their living habits through a few sessions, befrienders will then try to impart skills to seniors to encourage them to better care for their health. Fluency in one language/ dialect other than English is required. Please try to attend all (if not as many sessions as possible) sessions, as we hope that the elderly can also see familiar faces. Note that some shifts may be a week apart because they are days reserved in the event that we may not be able to conduct our sessions on a specific day
