Special Needs Cluster is back with Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) 6.0! BBBS is a regular series of Saturdates (playdates held on Saturdays) where children with special needs will attend fun-filled activities planned by the project team. BBBS 6.0 focuses on inclusive volunteering, where we aim to provide a common space for children and youths of varying abilities to intermingle and socialise.
Similar to BBBS 5.0, the playdates for BBBS 6.0 will be planned and organised by youths with special needs (YSNs). We would like to invite you to join us as a volunteer mentor to the YSNs, where you will guide and support YSNs in ideating, planning and curating the playdates which will be attended by neuroatypical children.
The planning for the playdates with the YSNs will start 26 August 2023 onwards and the Saturdates will take place from early October 2023 onwards. The commitment period is as follows:
Mandatory Orientation & Training (12 August 2023, 10am to 12pm)
Ideation sessions with YSNs to plan for playdates (6 sessions between 26 August to 30 September 2023; half day)
Thereafter, attend at least 1 playdate (Saturday, between early October to early December 2023; half day)
Prior to the above, we will be inviting you to a face-to-face sharing cum chit-chat session on 23 July 2023 (Sunday), from 10am to 1130am. An email will be sent to you if you have successfully registered for the session.
We look forward to seeing you and sharing more insights about BBBS 6.0!

Volunteer Mentor
Volunteer mentors are expected to guide and support youths with special needs (YSNs) in ideating, planning, curating and executing the playdates. Responsibilities may include:
To support YSNs in conceptualising their ideal playdates. This can be done by giving YSNs the space to express their
opinions, as well as offering advice whenever necessary.
To support YSNs in concretising their playdates by guiding them through the process of filling up the proposal (simple
template will be provided).
To keep track of playdate expenses. This may include ensuring that expenses are kept within the allocated budget.
To work closely with the playdate I/C (i.e., cluster members from Special Needs Cluster) and buddy mentors
(i.e., mentors who are in the same planning team for the playdate) to ensure that the team is on track in terms of project
milestones.
We will be sharing more about BBBS 6.0 during the chit-chat cum sharing session, including the profile of the youths and what to expect during the programme. We look forward to seeing and sharing with you what we have in store for BBBS 6.0!
